SURF NYC
05.10.2013

It's not hard to be inspired in a city packed with creative people, from fashion to graphic designers. But when those creatives are also surfers and creating products for the NYC surf scene - even cooler. Here are some of our favorite designs from NYC surfers.

1. WAX Magazine, a surf-centric magazine that explores the intersection of art, culture and surfing in and around New York City. Founded by a group of NYC surfers, the bi-annual publication is already making its way around the globe. Pick up a copy to scope the surf inspired fashion spreads!

2. The artwork of Ty Williams can now be found inside Ace Hotel rooms and along the side of what will be Patagonia's Surf Shop on Bowery. Check out his blog for some summer-sea inspiration.

3. In just a few years, Saturdays Surf has moved beyond being just a local surf shop and has helped define an entire aesthetic of East Coast surfing. Stop by to grab an espresso and some of their intoxicating beach soap, inspired by the Atlantic.

4. Salt Surf specializes in well-crafted surfboards, hand-shaped in California but designed with the NYC surfer in mind. Check out their online store for weekend worthy totes and tees, like this classic canvas.

5. Rob Kuliesk is a photographer whose work has appeared in publications ranging from Surfers Journal to NYLON magazine. He brings a unique and new perspective to surf photography. Check out more of his work here

6. INDOEK is a bi-coastal surf blog with outposts in Venice and Brooklyn. They teamed up with NYC designer, Todd St. John, to create this hand-crafted wax case made from sustainably sourced Nogal hardwood. So lovely - we can even see it being used to store our jewelry...

7. While you may be familiar with his history in construction, what you might not know about designer Matt Bernson is that his other passion in surfing. The Chilmark sources its inspiration from its namesake seaside town, and we can't help but think that this ocean hued sandal would be perfect for your journey to the coast.

8. The NY Fish Fry is an annual celebration of NYC surf culture that takes place on Long Beach. For more info, updates and when this laid-back celebration is taking place (surf and weather dependent) click here.

TOUGH LOVE
05.06.2013

Inspired by the theme of this year's Met Gala; PUNK: Chaos to Couture, and one of its co-chairs, Rooney Mara. The exhibit explores the influence of punk's influence on fashion from Sid Vicious to Vivienne Westwood and all the studs, spikes and safety pins in between. A perfect choice as a co-chair; Rooney has come to define minimalist, hard-edged style while balancing striking femininity. Check out our picks below for adding just the right amount of edge to your look. (Check out live coverage of the gala red carpet online tonight at 7pm Eastern Time)

THE MODERN GATSBY
05.01.2013

There is high anticipation in the studio over Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby - we have already scheduled an evening for a Gatsby Happy Hour pre-movie screening - but what to wear for such festivities or any May soirée? As much as we love all things Art Deco, we modern ladies are always craving a fresh spin on an old classic. Here are our picks for jazzing up your night on the town:

  1. Keep it classic with a bold cat eye with Nars Larger Than Life eyeliner.
  2. Sparkle with sass - these little Ban.do bobbis add just the right amount of glitz.
  3. A bold and sexy white suit from H&M. Gatsby would be proud.
  4. Gatsby soundtrack - Spring perfect playlist, pair with a touch of gold on the ears.
  5. Stack these pave rings to dial up the right amount of a Midas Touch.
  6. A shoe any modern day Daisy would love - Izabel demi wedge.
  7. Evoke the Golden Days of Jazz than with this Gold Bar Clutch.
